SZP Senior Partner Arman Berdalin Interviewed by Forbes Kazakhstan with Regard to the Events Surrounding Samruk-Kazyna and its Subsidiaries
According to SZP Senior Partner Arman Berdalin, Samruk-Kazyna and its portfolio companies are the tell-tale evidence of the Kazakhstan corporate governance weaknesses, in particular, the misperception of a private company’s budget as a specific portion of the national budget.
Another weakness is related to the national economy in general, i.e. the poor performance of boards of directors who are not actively engaged in companies management and who do not incur full responsibility for their actions or omissions.
Arman Berdalin strongly believes that the rise of professional minority shareholders, including foreign shareholders, in Samruk-Kazyna would exert disciplinary pressure on the government as a shareholder of the Fund.
Arman also suggests rending Samruk-Kazyna from its shareholder and electing an efficacious board of directors that would prevent the government from meddling in the Fund’s affairs.
