In February 2017, Kazakhstan mass media published Order of the Chairman of the Kazakhstan National Security Committee On Approval of the Technical Regulations: General Requirements to Telecommunications Equipment Used in Special Investigation Operations, as Well as Collection and Storage of Subscriber Information No. 91 of 20 December 2016.

The Technical Regulations for mobile operators were developed in furtherance of Kazakhstan counterterrorism efforts and will come into force in February 2018.
