Partner Arman Berdalin Participating in the Regular Meeting of the Technical Committee of the EBRD Project for Corporate Governance Reform

On 18-19 February 2015, the Technical Committee of the EBRD-sponsored Project for Corporate Governance Reform in the Republic of Kazakhstan held in Astana and Almaty a number of preparatory meetings and the regular third meeting. This Project, in which Sayat Zholshy & Partners acts as a local counsel, implies a set of amendments to, first of all, the Kazakhstan JSC Law and other legislative and subordinate acts aimed to improve the corporate governance framework in Kazakhstan. Besides, the Project stipulates the development of a model corporate governance code for joint stock companies.

The event was attended by representatives of the Kazakhstan National Bank, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of National Economy, Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund, International Finance Corporation, Kazakhstan Stock Exchange, Association of Kazakhstan Financiers, EBRD, King & Wood Mallesons and Sayat Zholshy & Partners.

The meetings were devoted to the discussion of the JSC Law amendments proposed by the counsels in the context of corporate governance reform.

The debates were spirited and proved high commitment of the attendees. The meetings ended with certain resolutions on the conceptual framework of proposed amendments and the approved schedule of further works under the Project.
