Partner Amir Begdesenov Elected Co-chairman of the KazBar Antitrust Law Committee
On 5 February 2014, the meeting of the KazBar Antitrust Law Committee unanimously elected Amir Begdesenov, a partner of Sayat Zholshy & Partners, as a co-chairman of the Committee.
KazBar, the Kazakhstan Association of Commercial Lawyers, was established in 2012, thus implementing the idea of a professional union of lawyers based on international best practices.
Currently, KazBar promotes interests of nearly all Kazakhstan legal community, for example:
1) international law firms: Dentons (former Salans and SNR Denton), Dechert and Norton Rose;
2) leading Kazakhstan law firms: Sayat Zholshy & Partners, GRATA Law Firm, Olympex Advisers, Aequitas and Signum; and
3) international service companies and producers: Chevron, Schlumberger, Uranium One, Kazakhmys; and
4) well-established Kazakhstan companies: Nazarbayev University, VTB Bank Kazakhstan, JSC Reserve Centre of the Kazakhstan National Bank, Q-BRO, JSC Halyk Finance, JSC Kazteleradio and JSC Almaty International Airport.
The key goals and objectives of KazBar include the following:
∙ promoting the rule of law;
∙ assisting with the regulation of legal services market;
∙ ensuring fair and healthy competition;
∙ assisting lawyers with the acquisition of law knowledge and law application skills;
∙ participating in law-making;
∙ introducing civilized code of conduct for lawyers; and
∙ building up decisive authority of the legal profession in the community for promotion of KazBar members.
