Yerzhan Toktarov

Work Experience:

Yerzhan started his professional career in 2007 as an associate in Sayat Zholshy & Partners.  In 2021, he was promoted to of counsel.

Yerzhan has taken over the labour law practice from SZP Partner Dmitriy Chumakov and continues to further develop this high potential area of practice.  Yerzhan advises clients on the most challenging labour issues, drafts documents, and represents employers in court actions initiated by former employees seeking reinstatement in work and various compensations. 

In 2013, he worked as a member of the team drafting the Kazakhstan Law On Permits and Notices, the fundamental document regulating all licensing and authorisation issues in Kazakhstan.

In 2016-2017, on the instruction of a major West-Kazakhstan power company, Yerzhan conducted comprehensive legal due diligence of their HR documentation.  Yerzhan also took part in the most substantial and complicated projects connected with the issuance of foreign employment permits.

Yerzhan reviews and assesses regulatory compliance of Clients (compliance control), identifies legal risks and gets Clients prepared for regulatory audits.

Yerzhan is actively involved in all family law projects, in particular, dissolution of marriages, prenuptial agreements and marriage contracts, division of marital property, child custody/communication settlements, inheritance, etc.

He has gained extensive experience in reviewing Clients’ draft agreements/contracts and preparing legal opinions on various legal issues.  He often appears before courts and arbitration tribunals in civil matters, and defends Clients in administrative proceedings.

In 2021, Yerzhan completed internship at Almaty city courts where he grasped the specifics of civil, criminal, administrative and appellate proceedings.

On 26 March 2022, Yerzhan Toktarov was appointed by Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev (Decree No. 845) a judge of a district court in Almaty City where Yerzhan administered justice in civil proceedings for two years.
